<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sunday is a lazy day, so today&#8217;s going to be a lazy Youtube Sunday. Specifically, Lady Gaga Parodies That Are Better Than The Originals Lazy Youtube Sunday. Why that specific? Because I can and because there are a ton of videos that fit that theme. Here are a few that I like. <span id="more-753"></span></p>
<p><object width="500" height="306"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xHCu28bfxSI&#038;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xHCu28bfxSI&#038;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="306" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>For the unenlightened, &#8220;Neutra Face&#8221; is a parody of Lady Gaga&#8217;s &#8220;Poker Face&#8221; and is about fonts, not poker faces. The original song would be much cooler if it were actually about poker. <a href="<br />
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHCu28bfxSI">Here&#8217;s the original video</a> if you hate embeds or want to bookmark it.</p>
<p><object width="500" height="306"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZilqYp_9-Wc&#038;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZilqYp_9-Wc&#038;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="306" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>This parody tickles my not-so-inner geek. Not all mathematicians work in labs, but I&#8217;d be up for a lab romance, no matter the lab. Just make sure to dispose of the biohazards safely. <a href="<br />
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZilqYp_9-Wc">Link to the original</a>.</p>
<p><object width="500" height="306"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/a_uzUh1VT98&#038;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/a_uzUh1VT98&#038;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="306" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>If anyone can make Lady Gaga good, it&#8217;s a bunch of librarians. Librarians are the unsung superheroes, always there to help you when you need to research your paper the day before it&#8217;s due. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_uzUh1VT98">Link to original</a>.</p>
<p><object width="500" height="306"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/h47fNaOb-JU&#038;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/h47fNaOb-JU&#038;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="306" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>Lady Gaga&#8217;s from outer space? I can get behind that. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h47fNaOb-JU">Link to original.</a></p>
<p><object width="500" height="306"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-AYTOsSvoo0&#038;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-AYTOsSvoo0&#038;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="306" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>This one&#8217;s for the old-school gamers, particularly of the Nintendo type. I still have (and play!) an original GameBoy, so I feel some of the sentiments in the song, particularly with keeping track of only 150 Pokemon instead of 500. Yes, I admit it. It&#8217;s also stuck in my head now. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AYTOsSvoo0">Link to original</a>.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Remember when <a href="http://www.sushimustwrite.com/?p=81">I reviewed <em>Running with Scissors</em> by Augusten Burroughs</a> awhile back? Because of that review (I suspect) I received an email from his media team. The email told me about the author&#8217;s upcoming book, complete with a book trailer. If I were a few years younger, I would have been skeptical about book trailers. Aren&#8217;t those things for movies? Ah, but people like movies. Sadly people like books less, but maybe they&#8217;ll pay attention to a book trailer and not realize it&#8217;s a book until the punchline.</p>
<p>At first I thought I&#8217;d just leave it be and not post it because turning this blog into a commercialized ooze gets old really quickly. Then I watched the trailer, which I was pleasantly surprised to see was only a minute long, a good thing because I have a short attention span for anything on a computer screen.</p>
<p>It also brightened my Monday, and as a result you get to see it too.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP-NfLcS8P4">Watch the book trailer right here. Embeds are no fun, so have a direct link.</a></p>
<p>That&#8217;s right, Santas are flashing people in the streets of New York City, but flashing them with the new book. It&#8217;s a stroke of marketing genius. And that, along with the equally awesome cover, leads me to post about Augusten&#8217;s new book <em>You Better Not Cry</em>, which I would read the for similar reasons I read <em>Running with Scissors</em>. That one was for the title, this one would be for the cover if I hadn&#8217;t already read one of Burroughs&#8217; works. This makes me rethink the title of every NaNoWriMo novel I&#8217;ve ever had a title for (to tell the truth, this year bumps the number to over half).</p>
<p>There&#8217;s stuff in it for you too, though. The publisher is also getting with the scene and is holding a contest for you dear readers. Well, not just you dear readers of this tiny blog. It&#8217;s more like the dear readers of the author, but either way, <a href="http://us.macmillan.com/smp/promo/youbetternotcry">you can enter right here</a>. The legal mumbo jumbo that will most likely affect you is that you have to be over 18 and live in the US (sorry, everyone else). And if you do win, let me know, okay? Satisfy my curiosity.</p>
<p>Besides, look at this flashing Santa.</p>
<p><img src="http://pics.livejournal.com/sushimustwrite/pic/00024t69" height=60% width=60%></p>
<p>Doesn&#8217;t that crack you up too?</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I finished <em>Artemis Fowl</em> by Eoin Colfer on my commute this morning. I won a copy in a contest on Twitter that entailed sending the author a link to something in the hopes of making him laugh. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-x9ygQEGA">The literal version of Bonnie Tyler&#8217;s &#8220;Total Eclipse of the Heart&#8221;</a>, which had just been posted on Youtube, was my entry. It earned me the first copy of the book.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not here to review the book today. That&#8217;ll come tomorrow, as I&#8217;m too sleep-deprived over the past couple of days to write a cohesive (or even decent) review. For now just enjoy the video and remember how creepy 80s music videos really were, though the same could be said of most music videos.</p>
