Racism in billboards

On my way home today I saw many billboards on the interstate, as expected. One caught my eye: a billboard with the Twin Towers on 9/11 and “Dear America, profiling would have prevented this terrorist act”.

I don’t care what your political views are, but that’s wrong on several levels, the least of which is encouraging racism. After doing a bit of digging, I saw another similar billboard from 2008: the same image with “Don’t vote for a Democrat” on it. Ignoring the fact that a Republican was in the White House when 9/11 happened, connecting 9/11 with something only marginally related in that way will only make the people behind the billboard look tacky, if not crass. Way to go.

Hm. Does anyone know how much it costs to rent a billboard space?
