This morning I stumbled across this collection of sexist vintage ads. Some of them would be shocking in a modern magazine but are what you’d expect from the era: women in the kitchen, delicate women, women wanting household items. Sexist, yes, but not surprising.
Then you stumble across the ad with a woman mashed up with a tiger patterned rug. The man’s right foot is on her head. Another ad shows a man about to spank a woman. The slogan says, “If your husband ever finds out…” I didn’t live when these advertisements ran, but don’t tell me no one ever protested these ads. It was a different era then, but someone must have seen through these. I’m glad they did.
