The first block

I told myself I would get to 70,000 words today. That didn’t happen. What happened instead was the first major block I’ve experienced in a long time and certainly all month.

See, my main character’s evil twin (who is now not-so-evil) and the not-so-evil twin’s alternate have just had a showdown, which resulted in the creation of a portal that actually works. This portal showed up next to my main character, who takes it and lands in the first alternate world next to the not-so-evil twin’s lair. She’s currently about to tinker with the technology to try to fix the portals.

Meanwhile on Earth, what are the evil twin and not-so-evil twin supposed to do? And what about everyone else? That’s what I’m trying to figure out. And that’s where I’m stuck. I’d have to come back to them eventually, so I guess it’s better that I get stuck now than later; I’ve also had a lot of distractions in the form of hypochondria today.

The day wasn’t a total loss. I did write 3,000 words, therefore making this day the least productive NaNoWriMo day so far this year. As long as I don’t dip below that this year, I’ll be able to use this as a bragging point for next year.

On another note, this novel will be ending in the next few days. This means that I need something else to write about. Anyone?
