Happy Festivus! One of the tradition of Festivus is the Airing of Grievances, where we go around and discuss everything that disappointed us this year. I’ll stick to the world around me. From the large to the tiny, here we go.
World economy (particularly the United States), stop sucking. Yes, I know the recession is technically over, but you’re taking your sweet time climbing out of that hole. And while we’re at it, stop being so mean to people I love.
State of Georgia, I’m upset and disappointed. You elected a completely backwards governor to office along with a bunch of people who have no plans to send Georgia on a forward path. Don’t blame me; I voted for one of the other guys.
The sexists, the racists, the homophobes, the -ists of the world who have a notion of superiority just because of something that we can’t control have disappointed me with their behavior, though progress has been made this year. Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell has been repealed. California’s Proposition 8 was overturned, but not before a stay that is still in effect was issued.
The absence of basic mathematical literacy in the world continues to disappoint me every day, along with a society that encourages this illiteracy. We don’t say it’s okay when people avoid reading simple things like their email or the bus schedule, do we? Then why should we say it’s okay for people to avoid calculating a tip because it’s hard?
And finally I’m disappointed in myself. I was going to polish up my pumpkin novel! That book has been sitting since March, but it’s going to get picked up again and more often. Really.
