The Wisconsin Territory was created in 1836.
In 1862 Louis Pasteur and Claude Bernard completed the first pasteurization tests.
George Takei was born in 1937. I won’t lie. I didn’t realize he was that old.
Adolf Hitler was born in 1889 and turned 50 in 1939. His fiftieth birthday was a national holiday in Germany. There is an entire Wikipedia article on his birthday celebration.
Apollo 16 landed on the moon in 1972.
The Columbine High School shooting happened on this day in 1999. When you put it that way, 1999 was a long time ago. One of the survivors did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) at Reddit today, which is a fascinating read.
And of course, there was the Deepwater Horizon explosion last year, which led to the oil spill now known as The Oil Spill. The Gulf will never be the same.
