In case you’re not a Harry Potter fan or you were living under a rock over the last few days, J.K. Rowling sent her fans on a search for something exciting on Tuesday. Ten fan sites received coordinates to places around the world, which were to be put in a special map. These coordinates were relevant to the Potterverse in some way, from King’s Cross station to the Wollogong Warriors Quidditch team to the Toronto Skydome where Rowling did a reading. Looking around the area would reveal a letter, and these letters revealed the word Pottermore, which is JKR’s next project.
What is Pottermore? It’s not another book. She has confirmed that. People have speculated video games, movies, and MMORPGs. The Pottermore.com site mentions Warner Bros., which definitely tips the scale toward something film-based. Could it be a TV series? That could be interesting, but getting the rights to show the show in other countries would be fun. I’m also pretty sure we would have heard something about a TV series, even if from the actors who were working on a super-secret project. A few people have seen Pottermore, in particular folks at Mugglenet and The Leaky Cauldron, and they say it’s great. We’ll find out in six days, won’t we?

I haven’t been living under a rock, but I have been living up at a lake, so I haven’t been online much except to read the NaNo forums. This is the first day I’ve ventured elsewhere, and I’m really glad I did. Thanks for letting me know about this! I feel like a horrible fan for not knowing this already. I’ll have to pay more attention from now on! 🙂
It’s definitely hard to get online if you’re having a fine time at a lake. Don’t feel like a horrible fan; surely allowances can be made for not knowing about something that oh, suddenly came up. I wouldn’t have known if it didn’t show up on my feed, though to be fair, I follow enough people who happen to be fans that it would have shown up eventually. Five days!
