South Korea’s schools are planning a transition to an all-digital textbook system. The kids are already used to digital devices, the article mentions. I know I’m not the target demographic for the digital textbook since I’m not in the South Korean school system and it’s no secret that I love my dead trees, but watching the country take such strides in technology is a great thing. Fewer books printed will definitely have an impact on the environment, and the students’ backpacks will be so much lighter, leading to better back health and posture. Even though I like regular books, this is a great advance in educational technology, and I’d like to see where this goes. Maybe other institutions (and maybe entire countries?) will follow suit.
