This Literature Map is pretty neat. You enter a writer, and a map is generated showing writers in tag cloud form considered close to the one you put in. The closer the two writers are, the more likely the system thinks someone will like both of them. I just put in J.K. Rowling, and three of her nearest writers were Stephenie Meyer (shudder, but I guess a lot of people do like both), Anne Rice (haven’t read anything by her), and Philip Pullman (haven’t read anything by him).
You can click a writer on a map and navigate to their map. Clicking a writer doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll see the same map but shifted, though. I just clicked Philip Pullman, and J.K. Rowling and Anne Rice were at the very edges of the map. The map is still pretty ingenious despite this. It looks like an interesting way to discover new writers to read, and I may have to try this in the future.

This is all very good and all, but you’ve really never read any Anne Rice? Rectify this!
I have some reading to do then. There’s a copy of Interview with a Vampire at this yard sale. I may have to get it.
I’m shocked that you haven’t read Pullman’s “The Golden Compass,” especially considering your interests! Looks like you’ve got some reading to do.
It’s on my to read list. Really!
