Steve Jobs announced his resignation as Apple’s CEO this afternoon. He has left Apple in some way several times before, once way back in the day because he was fired, other times more recently to concentrate on his health (though he still played a part in Apple’s major decisions). This time his resignation is for real. His resignation gets straight to the point, just like every email he has ever sent.
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Appleās CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come,” Jobs writes. He’s still staying on as the chairman of Apple’s board while Tim Cook, who has stepped in for Jobs before, removes “acting” from his title.
It’s the end of an era, Steve. I may not be an Apple fangirl, but your vision for product and design was unparalleled. You, your keynotes, your fashion sense, and your taste in music will be missed at Apple HQ. I hope the speculators are wrong about your health being the reason for your resignation.
