Three-day novel, day two…or lack thereof

Guess who wrote only two thousand words today. If you guessed this girl, you’d be correct. For those keeping track, that’s eight thousand words…out of the original fifty thousand word goal I set.

Well, crap.

I spent the morning flinging hands around about my plot, which was hitting really close to home, and figuring out ways to change it. The afternoon and part of the evening were spent with a close friend who was in town for an unrelated thing for the weekend. We had a great time, but since I probably won’t be able to write 42,000 words tomorrow, it’s very likely that I won’t be reaching my goal for the weekend.

So what should I do, lower my goal or give up altogether? I have no idea what’s going to happen next, nor do I think I can write the novel as is this weekend. Giving up is tempting, but not succeeding in this challenge is what’s making me stick it through, partly because at least one person has already reached my current goal this weekend.

I could also lower my goal to an achievable one, but this sort of feels like cheating to me. I already set my goal once. Shouldn’t I stick to it?

This is a hard decision to make. What’s a girl to do?
